Presents the oral history interviews of four oil workers and one of their wives. The narrators discuss why they or their families came to southern California and how they became involved with work in the oil patch. They describe their work in drilling and maintaining oil wells and working in petroleum refineries as well as other jobs they held, when oil jobs were hard to find. Several of them tell about the problems of organizing a union of oil workers and how they coped with strikes.
